How we started

This vision was inspired by our founder Julie Molisho. Julie moved to the United States from the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2010 and quickly realized that refugee and immigrant families needed support and guidance to integrate into their new environment.  She experienced firsthand the struggles of adjusting to and navigating a new culture, language, and country. She started to work for organizations serving refugee and immigrant communities when she realized many of them needed help beyond what the organizations could provide. Julie began helping with these additional needs outside of her job but was quickly overwhelmed trying to meet the needs on her own. Trained as a lawyer, Julie has experience supporting her community in a variety of roles including interpretation, health advocacy, church leadership, case management, and community organizer. This motivated her to start her own non-profit organization to address the complex needs experienced by immigrant and refugee families. The River ARC was formed and established in 2021 and launched in 2022.
